FAQ

Do you accept Insurance?

I do not participate in any insurance plans. I am considered an out-of-network provider, and my services are covered by most insurance companies as such. I will provide a monthly statement called a "superbill" that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, check, PayPal and Venmo. Payment is due directly to me at the time of service.

How do I find out if my insurance company will reimburse me?

I suggest asking your insurance company the following questions to determine your coverage.

  • Does my plan cover mental health services, specifically individual psychotherapy, CPT code 90834?
  • If so, what percentage of the cost is covered for out-of-network providers?
  • Do I have a deductible? How much is it and has it been met?

What are your office hours?

I generally meet with clients during regular business hours, 9am-5pm, but can sometimes accommodate an earlier appointment. I offer evening appointments on Wednesdays.

Do you offer sessions by phone or by Skype?

I prefer to do sessions in person but will conduct phone or Skype sessions with clients I have an established relationship with. The fee is the same as a regular session.

How can I set up an appointment?

The best way to reach me is by email at SusanMRichman@gmail.com and let me know that you would like to set up an appointment. I will then arrange a time to speak with you by phone so I can learn more about what you are looking for help with. From there we will determine a mutually agreeable time to meet. You may also call me directly at (301) 744-9720, though you will most likely have to leave a message. Please indicate the best times to reach you and I will call you back as soon as I am able.

What are the rules of confidentiality?

The relationship between the therapist and client is confidential. Information can only be provided to others through written consent of the client. In the exception of a client being in danger to herself or others, the law states that confidentiality may be broken to insure the safety of all involved.

What is your cancellation policy?

A full fee is charged for missed appointments or no show cancellations with less than a 24 hour notice, unless due to illness or emergency.

What can I expect from our first session?

During our first session we will discuss your reasons for coming in to counseling and how you would like your life to be different. I will gather a variety of background information from you and discuss goals you would like to work on. If we both agree that we feel a good “fit,” we will begin to formulate a general plan regarding how we can work together.

Where are you located?

My office is conveniently located in downtown Bethesda with easy access to the metro, buses and circular trolley. Metered street parking is available on Del Ray Avenue and surrounding streets. A large public parking lot is 1/2 block from my office building, with entrances on both Del Ray and Auburn Avenues.

Additional Questions?

Please email me at SusanMRichman@gmail.com or call me directly at (301) 744-9720 for further information. I will answer any of your questions about my fees, insurance, my schedule, and anything else that you might want to know before you come in.
